Dear Athletic Trainers and Athletic Training Students,
Even though we are busy with winter sports, preparation for our 29th summer of Coach Wootten’s Basketball Camp is under way. The number of campers who have already signed up is at an all time high, and we are looking for athletic trainers to treat and prevent injuries during this year’s sessions.
Coach Wootten’s Basketball Camp is a teaching camp for boys and girls ages 10-18. The camp houses over 2400 boys for four weeks and 600 girls for one week each summer. Over the 29 years of camp, we have had to treat minor problems such as scrapes and bruises and severe injuries including various fractures through out the body to campers needing immediate surgical procedures. Even though the camp’s main purpose is to develop a well-rounded, complete basketball player, it offers athletic trainers to practice and develop their skills.
Each summer we have college students from colleges throughout the United States, who use our camp to help them job network. As a result of Coach Wootten’s Connections throughout the United States and Internationally, we have had athletic training interns and professionals obtain jobs at the high school, college, and even professional level. Currently we have Coach Wootten’s Basketball Staff members working in the DC Public School System, the Virginia Public School System, UVA, Boston College, Richmond University, UNC, and the DC Metropolitan Area Catholic Private School System. As you can see our previous staff members have used the friendships and professional contacts made at our camp to open doors to their futures. As the Head Athletic Trainer and Medical Coordinator I would like to offer the same opportunities of our past and present Athletic Training Staff members.
Our camp is an overnight camp held in Frostburg State University, Frostburg MD. Each session is one week long and runs Sunday to Thursday. The role of the Athletic Training Staff member is to cover the athletic training room, games, contests, and practices. Along with the daily duties the staff will have 1-2 nights of night duty and may be asked to make hospital/medical center runs. When staff members are not on duty they are free to workout, swim, participate in the staff pick up games, and/or visit the nightly hospitality room. Student Athletic Trainers begin at $300 and Certified Athletic Trainers begin at $400.
Enclosed is an application. We look forward to the possibility of working with you this summer.
